Google AdWords Quality Score
While I’ve written about decoding Google AdWords Quality Score and CTR in the past, I wanted to point out that Google released their official position in their post the other day about quality scores and the ad auction. Within the post they talk about CTR being a primary indicator of relevance in determining quality score which is them multiplied by Max CPC to determine position.
While their explanation makes a good case for why ads are positioned where, I still can’t help but notice that a byproduct if this is maximum revenue optimization. This method increases Google’s revenue by [1] ensuring that the ads generating more revenue per page view are higher in the results and [2] the searcher get a “relevant” experience, encouraging them to return to Google during their next search.
Now I’m not criticizing Google for either. It’s just good business to make as much as you can and provide your users with the best experience you are able. What I’m saying is, if you increase your CTR with great keyword choices and well formed ad groups with great ad text, you’ll increase your CTR and traffic quality …resulting in position rewards from Google.
It’s really a win-win scenario.
